Please do not toss away old cell phones, print cartridges, toners or rechargeable batteries of any kind including batteries from hearing aids, defibrilators, bar code readers and walkie-talkies.

The BPERC recycling program accepts rechargeable batteries of all kinds, cell phones, accessories and print cartridges.  The committee has set up convenient drop-off locations all over the peninsula so households and employers can drop off these E-wastes and keep them from polluting the landfills, soil and groundwater.  Even though these items are safe in their usable life they become highly toxic when they are broken down.

Protect our environment on the Burin Peninsula and don’t throw them in the garbage!

Discarded rechargeable batteries are loaded with toxic chemicals and heavy metals like cadmium, nickel and lead.  They pollute and leak toxic waste in our landfills, pollute groundwater eventually end up in the food chain causing serious health risks to all living things –even our own drinking water.

Leaked ink from print cartridges are hazardous pollutants to the environment, and the plastic takes many generations to decompose.

Cell phones contain materials which are harmless during their usable life, but become potentially toxic carcinogenic environmental hazards when discarded. Plus, precious metals, flame retardant plastics, glass, and other materials are unclaimed for reuse when cell phones are thrown away.

Let's keep recyclable materials out of our landfills and save lives and millions in future health issues and clean ups!
