Mission

To increase environmental awareness and action on the Burin Peninsula by promoting strategies, policies, and practices that foster community action and engagement, minimize negative environmental impact and maximize benefits to the environment in the region.

Vision

The BPERC aims to initiate widespread change through education programs that encourage community action and engagement. Our goal is to bring environmental education to corporations, non-government organizations, government and individuals and to provide information and suggestions that can assist with the implementation of environmentally friendly policies.

The BPERC aspires to help the Burin Peninsula become an environmental example for other regions. It sees an opportunity for the Burin Peninsula to be a forerunner in its environmental commitment since so few regions have adopted the progressive measures that the peninsula has.

Values

  • We believe in sustainable development - meeting the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
  • We believe in environmental limitations - there are definite limits to what we can take from the natural environment and to the amount of pollution and waste we can put into the environment.
  • Within those limitations, we believe in fair shares of available environmental space. In particular, we are aware that the impact of damage to the environment hits the poorest in the community the hardest, both at home and overseas.
  • We believe in evidence-based solutions to environmental problems that make people’s lives better while protecting the planet for future generations.
  • We believe in promoting people's action: individual and collective, local, national and international, to tackle the current and future environmental challenges the Burin Peninsula faces.
